Animal Ark Rabbit & Guinea Pig Re-homing Centre

Animal Ark is a re-homing centre for Rabbits and Guinea-pigs in Smithton, just outside Inverness in the north of Scotland. The centre takes in animals that are no longer wanted for various reasons, illness, lack of interest, lost or abandoned.

Recently the centre received a call from a local farmer who had answered a knock at the door to find a group of tourists offerring him a rabbit in a Tesco carrier bag! They had been taking pictures and on returning to their car found a beautiful small black lop underneath the vehicle. As it was too far for the rabbit to have wandered there himself, I can only surmise that he was abandoned there. After removing several ticks from around his eyes he has settled in very well and is a friendly wee soul.

Another extrmely tame rabbit I named Dolly Dimple was found wandering in a neighbouring estate to the centre's. Despite searches for the previous owner, no-one claimed her but she was found a new home really quickly and now lives in luxury with her new friend Floppy - they took to each other instantly.

Finally, the centre had a call recently from Dundee, asking for advice about how to find a home for a rabbit that had been found in the street and handed in to an extremely nice couple who ended up bringing the rabbit to the centre, a round trip of about 280 miles, as no place could be found for her in their area. As the couple had found the centre's details from the RabbitRehome site, the rabbit can thank you for your help too!

The centre runs entirely by fundraising efforts and donations. All rabbits are vaccinated against the myxo virus and all potential new owners are home-checked before any animal leaves the centre.
