Dear Santa,

What we do need are toys. Budgets restrict in that area and fosterers usually buy their own, so toys would be great. Also things like the hay cubes for them to knock about. We also need the basic stuff such as disinfectant, salt/mineral wheels, chew sticks and treats. Not sure if it comes under this type of thing, but anti fly strike stuff and spot on treatments for fleas etc are always handy. Other than that my mind is blank, but even just a couple of those things would be great. Thanks for thinking of us.

Dear Santa,

Thank you for the email and to the forum members on Rabbits United forums. We have so many things we need for the rabbits, it is difficult to know where to start, and also not sure what sort of things we can ask for, so decided to give you lots, and keep our fingers crossed.

Sharon’s Garden (named after one of our goats)

This is approximately 25 ft by 60 ft and want to divide it into approx 11 sections (each with a concrete area and a grassed area. We need 50 ft of 6 ft wesh (concrete beneath to prevent burrowing.), and 400 ft of 4ft mesh panelling to divide the areas. The rabbits would have a hutch on the inside of the barn so they will go up a ramp to get into the hutch. The cost of this will be quite a lot, but we do like the buns to have decent accommodation, it is very important to us.

We currently have 7 rabbit gardens which need a lot of repairs. Namely the overhangs need to be redone, and that would mean purchasing a lot of weldmesh, and struts to use with them. I haven’t got any prices yet, but can get some.

I know other rescue centres have been looking into rabbit arcs (sleeping quarter and section on the grass), that are not made of wood, and ideally fold away, but of a decent size, so they last longer than traditional wood ones, and I would be very interested in these.

We also run a scheme where people can get their rabbits neutered for £20 and we pick up the rest of the bill, but this difference has increased significantly in the last few years, although we do organize a discount with the vets. We want to continue this scheme, and some help here would be terrific.

We want to do a campaign to encourage people to come to rescue centres for their rabbits, instead of the pet shops and breeders, to help all the unwanted rabbits be given a home, and also to prevent the huge number of incorrectly sexed rabbits, and the litters they produce. So some help here would be appreciated.

In 2003 we setup our own vet facility on site for your animals, and last year our vet performed on rabbits 124 operations (mainly neutering/spaying, but also dentals), and 86 checks and vaccinations, so help with any of this would be very much appreciated. Flea and anti fly strike preparations would also be very useful

I hope this is okay, but I thought if I covered everything it would be better. Any further information please let me know.

Regards

Dear Santa, I am so grateful to have been asked to send you a Christmas wish list.

The rabbits here at Fife rabbit Rescue are all well taken care of but a helping hand is always welcome.

If we had more snuggle safe heat pads they would be very welcome on cold winter nights.

Top opening pet carriers are always needed.

The rabbits all love wicker balls and would make a lovely Xmas day treat for them.

All the rabbits love to have a nice clean hutch, so litter trays are always welcome.

I use Virkon tables here at the rescue to disinfect the hutches, more of these would be very useful, Critical care sachets are always vital to have,.

Other items, would be, wood shavings, burgess excell, hay cubes, hay racks. But most of all....a very happy cosy Christmas to all the homeless rabbits around the country.

Thank you for thinking of us Santa

Happy Christmas

From Kareen at from Fife Rabbit Rescue.

More to come....
