Wild Cross Pet Baby Rabbits
We are getting eight six week old baby rabbits coming in on Saturday 31st January 2004. They are all agouti.
The full story is that the lady's own personal rabbits (two female English rabbits) escaped out of the hutch and a wild rabbit mated with them. She caught them without even realising that the rabbits had been mated and put them away, grateful that a fox hadn't caught them.
28 days later some babies arrived and she didn't think that was a problem because baby rabbits would be easy to rehome. This was not the case though, considering the time of the year and the fact that they were half wild.
When they were five weeks old she started to phone rescues asking if they could take them, but they were either full up or not interested because of their parentage.
Therefore she thought her only option was to either have them put to sleep or let them go. She realised that they didn't stand much of a chance, especially at that age with no warren to go to etc.
Thats when she phoned an ex-foster carer and got put in contact with me. As everyone has probably guessed, I am full, but this I class as an emergency, being that they would have been put to sleep.
The woman is now getting her two female rabbits spayed, just in case!
Update: One has been rehomed and the other seven have been taken to Animal Lifeline in Sutton. (Tel: 020 8274 0034)
