Burgled Buns Need Supplies

On Thursday (5th December) evening, the night of the sanctuary Xmas do, when no-one was on site, The Society for Abandoned Animals was Burgled! The burglars got away alot of items including all the catering supplies for the Sunday fair, the entire safe and its contents (which included all the floats for the fair and much more besides), they even took the video recorder from our CCTV. They had away with alot more besides and of course the costs of repair was quite great too.

Monday morning we woke up to the news that the sanctuary offices had been broken into again! This time they had really gone to town, kicking in doors, ripping window casings out of the offices and trashing the place completely. Thankfully there was no money on site....but can't help but think they were looking for the Christmas fair takings.

The mess is unbelievable and now we feel exceptionally insecure and fear any further 'attacks' may be directed at the animals. So can you help us?

We need help with crime prevention. We need a brand new safe (one that can't be lifted away), a securely lockable cabinet, a video recorder and so much more, oh why not say it - we need new offices!

We desperately need to recoup the loss of items, cash and repair costs. If, like us, cash is a shortage we always need support with other ways too, such as volunteers - not just at the sanctuary but in our 5 charity shops in Levenshulme, Burnage, Timperley and Chorlton.

Our wish list includes:

  • Volunteers – We welcome people from all walks of life to help us to care for the animals at the sanctuary (under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult). There are many ways, in which you can help, from socialising the animals, cleaning out, feeding, grooming, dog walking and fundraising and working in the charity shops.
  • General items needed – bin liners, kitchen roll / tissue paper, washing up liquid (not tested on animals), scented disinfectant, and woolen blankets.
  • For our rabbits we need – rabbit food (Russell Rabbit dried mix and Burgess Excel dried mix), water bottles, food bowls, and hay.
  • For our cats we need - cat food (particularly Felix, Kitekat and Whiskas), toys, beds, litter trays and food bowls.
  • For our dogs we need – dog food (particularly Pedigree Chum, Winalot and Pal), toys, leads and treats.

If you or you know of anyone who can help us with any of this we would be immensely appreciative. All this puts such a huge downer on things and at a time of year when we are stretched for resources as more and more animals get dumped and fewer donations and visitors come in.

If you can help us please either email or call the sanctuary on 0161 9735318.
